Mike Scioscia is starting his eighth season as the manager of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2007. Scioscia owns a 520-452 career managerial record for a winning percentage of .535. He has led the Angels to postseason appearances in three of the past five seasons, including back-to-back American League West Division championships in 2004 and 2005. In 2002, Scioscia guided the Angels to the World Series title and best record in club history (99-63), and was honored as the American League Manager of the Year.

Before becoming the Angels’ skipper, Scioscia served as the manager of the class-AAA Albuquerque Dukes in 1999. From 1997-98, he was the Los Angeles Dodgers’ bench coach after working as the organization’s minor league catching coordinator from 1995-96.

Scioscia was a big league catcher for 15 years, including 13 with the Dodgers (1980-92), one with the San Diego Padres (1993) and one with the Texas Rangers (1994). He finished his career with a .259 batting average, 68 home runs and 446 RBIs in 1,441 games—all with Los Angeles before missing his final two seasons with a shoulder injury. Scioscia was a two-time All-Star and member of the Dodgers’ 1981 and 1988 world championship teams. He also played in the National League Championship Series four times. Taken in the first round (19th overall) of the 1976 Major League draft by Los Angeles, he made his big league debut at age 21.

A lifelong Catholic, Scioscia believes that his faith is his foundation. He grew up outside Philadelphia in Morton, Pa., and attended Catholic parochial schools as a young boy and belonged to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Scioscia’s parents taught him to love the Catholic faith and they went to Sunday Mass together as a family. Early in his career, former Dodgers manager Tommy LaSorda was a big influence on his faith and they would go to Mass together during the baseball season. Scioscia has been married to the former Anne McIlqueham for 22 years and they have two children, Matthew and Taylor.

He is very active in numerous Angels community relations activities.
